#5: “we can’t build that, that’s going to be way too expensive”.

architects should say this more often.

    Indeed, and I already do.

You know, one of my favorite professors told me that “Architects always raise riot.”

And we certainly must now. If not now, when? If the reason and conduct of architecture is not forthcoming and righteous, then is it not in the service of t he antithetical?

For example, architects designed the crematoriums at Auschwitz. Architects. For the love of God, architects.

    You know what?

You and I are friends, whether you like it or not.

Looks to me like we share this same insane lifestyle, with the same questions about its justification.

But at any rate, please continue to post your series of very fine and incisive videos.

    I am your devoted fan.

You’lll note that I listed “number 13″ as “number 12.”

That simple error indicates that I’ve been spending too much time writing specs.

    : )

Subscribed. Someone close to me turned me on to your stuff, and those videos have either helped or implemented my monumental frustration.

So deeply that I think I must leave the profession out of sheer outrage.

Don’t you feel betrayed? I do.

    LFMAO!

You put in ten sentences what I’ve been struggling with \for more than fifteen years.

    I’ll add a couple, if I may:

11: I love writing and editing specs.

    12: I love AutoCAD.

    And last but not least,

12: I love the principals, partners, or sole proprietors I have worked for. and their own principles are humane, with humility and not a shred of overbred egos.

I’m not an architect, but I work w/ them enough to see how it goes. A competant architect will make a decent living to quite well, depending on his business savvy. The scope of architecture is so broad it’s hard to get a client to pay a fair commission. A person pays about the same in commissions to sell a building as he’ll pay an architect to design it!
A consulting Mechanical Engineer, has a far more limited scope & can have relatively low paid workers do his design work for him.

Let’s just say deciding not to continue with architecture after 10 years of study and work was the best move I’ve ever made.

it’s not just about money, most architects want to be creative and the freedom to express their ideas … unfortunately that seldom happens in the ‘REAL’ world , and if anyone thinks differently then you’re either very naive or very lucky.

that is what an architect WISHES to be able to say.
